123 steering box

in good condition. It is one that I bought from a salvage yard about 15 years ago and never used. I adjusted it tonight and found it to be nice and tight. The shafts look to be nice and tight and not leaking.

These were pulled from cars fifteen years ago and will be in better condition than any you are likely to find in a yard today.

I actually have two for some reason.....don't ask why, I don't remember....it was fifteen years ago forchrisssake!

OK, I have some interest in the boxes. So tonight I went out and looked again. The threads sticking above the locking nut on the adjusting screw is four on one and six on the other.

For a comparison on my 240/300d na 1983 model which has over 200k on it there is five threads showing above the nut. It has about 1" of free play at the steering wheel. That car drives fine, eventually I will get around to adjusting it but it is very acceptable at present. I think I am pretty picky on steering looseness.

Both boxes carry the number on the casting 116 461 0401 and a YY marking. The serial number on the tighter box is A-7908, the other one is AK32961. I know that I bought them both for 123 chassis cars.

Before I adjusted them there was about 1/16" of free play on the long arm. Now there is none. I can take the long arm on either one and make the input spin freely. I am not a steering box expert but that seems good to me.

If you buy any of my parts my policy is that you can return them for a full refund for any reason. I will not refund the shipping though unless i sent you a part that is not what I described to you.

I am thinking of $75 plus ship for the one with more wear.

and $125 plus shipping on the tighter one.
