ODD BALL AC Evaporator needs replacing

The evaporator in my 1980 230 TE is leaking . I have it out but it's not available from any source so far...This is an aftermarket ac unit . Not an original equiptment unit ! The only marking on it is RANCO EXV-900..which has only lead to dead ends....Anyone know of a source for odd ball evapoartors ? A company that makes evaporators...? Any insight will be appreciated....

You've pulled the entire dash apart, right?

I'll assume this is a manual A/C system. So look for a 240D with similar controls and swap the 240D HVAC system into your 230TE.

If it's the condenser in front of the radiator, get a stock one, and cut off the hose ends that fit it. Find a hydraulic store, and remove your current hoses, and replace the hoses, using the stock ends for thecondener.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the suggestive feedback !

How it played out is the evaporator is being fixed and the expansion valve which was the really weak link is being replaced....

what ac system is on yours? I have dealer installed A/C on my euro 300TD, but was able to look up parts based on the type of compressor/system that was installed.

It has a Sanden SD 508 compressor but that bit of info. didn't aid in locating any other bits of the componentry ....but all is well again....
