Hey guys, thanks for all the leads towards aquiring a 500e. At this point I have located a silver/black '93 w/44k mi for about 37k. Is this a good price? As this is an east coast car (which supposedly was kept in a heated garage) how much of a concern is rust? The car is being sold by an authorized MB dealer and is reported as being in mint condition. Since I am not able to personally see the car, what kind of checking should I do before purchasing the car? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey man, you have got more guts than I if your willing to buy "sight unseen". However, maybe the local MBCA chapter could arrange an inspection for you? They would know more about what to look for than the AAA and you just know that a fellow enthusiast would go the extra mile (maybe even visit this dealer for you).

I bought my 500E sight unseen, as well as my 300TE. The 300TE I bought thru a broker; the 500E I saw in The Star. When I was first interested in the 500E, I had the previous owner bring to an MBZ dealer for a "Starmark" inspection. Since the car had 43k miles, I had them do a 45k minor service while they were there. All in all, a "no surprises" buying experience. Perhaps you can do the same??
