FS: Aluminum Steelies S. California pickup only
I sold my last Benz so it's time to sell parts off. My prized aluminum steelies that I've been selling for years from $300 to $500 (yes really) per wheel. I have some with tires mounted on them - $200 each and you have to take it with tire. Altadena CA I am NOT going to ship at this price, nor am I going to get the tires off at this price. These are the same wheels as I have on eBay (user srallen). Except with tires. These are the 14 x 6 wheels.

I've had a few messages from people wanting me to ship these, and I can but not at $200. Is there really no one in S. Cal who has been wanting aluminum steelies? Is it still the price is too much?

I think $800 for the set might be too much.
They are nice wheels though. |

The wheels are aluminum. They are sometimes called "Aluminum Steelies" because they look like steel wheels from the same time period.
Aluminum wheels: 11 pounds Bundt wheels: 13 pounds Steel wheels: 21 (or is it 23) pounds It reduces the unsprung weight of the car and improves handling. They were standard on US-market 240D, 300D, and 280E W123 sedans around 1981 for +/- a year (if you didn't have Bundt wheels). The 6" x 14" was on the 300D and 280E sedans, the 5 1/2" x 14 on the 240D. People often use them as a performance upgrade on a Pagoda, and sometimes on a 190SL if they want to go to 14" wheels on a 190SL. 6" is significantly more rare than the 5 1/2" because there were more 240Ds and they used them for a slightly longer period of time. |

Might be buying another W114 tomorrow. If that's the case, I'll be by to buy my second set of alloys from you.

I use similar ones on my 1980 300SD. They are SO much lighter than even the bundt wheels that were on it. And then I put wheel covers over them so they look just like steel wheels, but much lighter, and I think the aluminum absorbs vibrations better than the steel wheels for a nicer ride. Great compromise if you want wheel covers but also the light weight and smooth ride of aluminum wheels.
Mine are the 5.5" wide version, though. The ones the seller has are the 6" wide version which are very scarce and can handle a wider tire. I've never seen a set of the 6" wide ones in a wrecking yard. The closest I came was on a 300SD someone was parting out, and now I kick myself for not buying them because I didn't know what they were at the time.

Are you asking about my wheels? The ones with tires are gone. I still have a few (maybe 6?) that don't have tires on them. Are you looking for some?

I sold the ones with tires for $200 each. Without tires they are more. But if I don't have to ship them it makes a big difference to me. Are you in the market for some, or do you have some you are looking to sell?
