Despite the passage of years, each time that I have removed a transmission for clutch work, search as I may, I have discovered only the clutch in the clutch housing, never once a bell. Bells must therefore be kept somewhere else, in the care of leprechauns, in their very own bell housings.

And even though Mother Benz calls it a clutch housing in the manuals, the popular, common term is "bell housing". |

... because it is shaped like a bell... perhaps more so when the term bell housing was coined a hundred years ago.

We have always called them bell housings
Tge name comes tgey look like a bell when engine matting surface is placed on the ground As explained to me Quote:
