Oem 16x7.5 w140 wheels on my 89 560SEC. I am currently running 16x8 Oem 15 hole SL500 rims. Will the w140's fit?

Don't think so.

The 126 have a 25 offset, while the S-class are up in the 50s. Without proper spacers and a good set of lug bolts to make up for the extra length, I wouldn't recommend that.

I was told the offsets are close but the lug holes are 12mm compared to the 10mm on w126.
I guess I'll deep 6 the 140's.

Do 16" R129 wheels require mods to W126?

Hi, Its great to find this posting -- almost 8 years later!
I have a 1987 560 SEC (W126 body) that has little chrome 15" wheels. The chrome is peeling off and I'd also like to increase the wheel size. As I understand from your posting -- I also want to put the bigger 16" 15-slot wheels from an early '90s SL on my car. When you installed them, did you have to make any modifications to the SEC? I've read something about tie-rod interference. Did you have to use spacers? A photo of what you have on your car would be great. Thanks!

I think that's what JimB put on his SEC.

the S-Class wheels are mid 40's to low 50's offset and the W126 uses mid 30's

and then you have the whole 14mm lug seats vs. the 12mm lugs required by the W120

Question SO....., the basic rule is...

Wheels (15" or 16") from a late '80's 560SL will fit the W126 Series cars with no offset OR lug problems?

This would help me a lot!

Thanks!
