best michelins

So, I see there are Michelin Pilot exaltos, destiny or mxv4. They are all in the same price range. Which should I go for? Also the stock tires for my 420sel are 205/65/r15, but I have 225/60/r15 now. What is the best choice, sitck with what I have or go back to spec? Thanks

I need to make the same decision soon. I do like the Pilot Exaltos............but I hardly need them for the SD.

The size is definitely going to be 215-65-15. The 225's are fine, too, but a bit larger than I really need.

AND H rated (130MPH)

I chose Michelin Primacy MXV4, H-rated.

I stepped up in size a bit, and didn't want the car to "ride like a corvette", so I stepped down into a grand-touring tire. They are definately very round as Michelin does, ride nice and quiet, and handle decent.

It won't be the tightest handling tire on dry, but has already shown me it's very good on wet (new anyway) and rolls easily.

I'm putting on a new set of 15 hole wheels from the late W-126.

It had 215-70-14's which lasted over 100K miles..........but were a bit tall in the sidewall.

yes I dont think I can sustain 130 mph too long. I did about 129 once, but I dont like flirting with death that much, just wanted to see what i could do. i think it would do more but at those speeds the traffic breaks dont last long at all. i need a good tire. i do not want to spend a crap load on crap tires like the yokahomas.

These were the Michelin MX4 Rainforce tires........got them back in 2000 when I had the W123.......put 50K on them......transferred them to the SD and put another 50K on them..........still not at the wear bars, but they're unsafe in the rain.

the Primacy MXV4 is replacing the Energy and is an excellent Grand Touring all season tire with great ride quality while the Exalto A/S offers better steering reponse and handling

I found a set of stock wheels for my e420 which I will be picking up in San Diego tommorrow, and am going to get a set of 4 Michelin Primacy MXV4. There is a rebate available right now on them from different vendors.

$70 instant rebate at Costco on all Michelins and other offers at other retailers (usually in the form of a Visa gift card) at the moment.

I would go for the Primacy MXV4 as its a "luxury touring tire" vs the Pilot Exalto which is more sporty.

MXV4
Quieter
Smother
Longer milage warranty (60K vs 45)
Its also an "efficiency" tire; so its better on gas.

The sole advantage the Pilot Exalto would have is in the handling dept. But you probably wouldn't notice any real difference in normal everyday driving, certainly not until you're pushing and driving at 8- 10/ 10ths.

The Primacy MXV4 is a eminently capable tire.

The problem with it is that they don't offer it in 215-65-15. I'd need to go to 225-60-15 which is a smaller tire...........much closer to the stock 205-65-15's which look ridiculous on a W126.

Otherwise, it's a much better choice for the SD..........I certainly don't need the performance of the Pilot Exaltos.

On the other hand, the Hydroedge is a bit noisy.............

Go with the MXV4s. They're hard to beat all around.
