C43 AMG Snow Tires

Hi All:

Since Luke didn't respond, I'd appreciate it if anyone could answer this question.

I just bought a 1999 C43 AMG with new conti's, etc. However, for the winter in NY, I will need snow tires for my new daily driver.

Two questions:

1) I have a set of 7.5 J x 16 ET41, 5-Hole MB wheels that I would like to use on my 99 C43 for snow tires. Can I? will they fit? From the C43 AMG Owners' Manual, stock winter tires and rims are: 7.5 J x 17 H2 ET35 with 215 or 225 45 R 17 M+S.

2) Whether I use the 16" wheels or the stock 17" AMG wheels, what's the best, moderately priced snow tire for that car? (I won't engage in any performance driving between December and March.

Thanks,
Marc

you have to check to see if the whees will clear the calipers. Thats going to be your biggest hangup with the 16s, if they wont clear the calipers

A lot of people like the michelin artic alpin or blizzaks for winter use.

Good luck on yoru search.

I have a '97C36 and for the past 2 winters have used 205-55-16 Michelin Sport Alpins with reasonable success. They are mounted on 7.5*16, ET41(I think) from my '98 E420. The are tight but fit fine. Unless the C43 has larger brakes or something else different your 16" wheels should fit fine. I understand Bridgestone snows work well too. I personally would not use wider 17" tires for snow, you want to increase lbs./sq.in. on snow and ice. At the end of the day though, the C43 will never be a great winter car with all that power, but it will be acceptable. Cheers JT.

Thanks

for the responses. I believe I'll get some blizzacks when the time comes.

Our 1995 C36 came with a set of the W210 E320 16" wheels mounted with snow tires. They fit just fine.
