rim quality

I'm debating on switching out the AMG rims on my 99 clk and was wondering what everyone looks for in quality from the manufacturer. What are the major differences between buying rims from Tire Rack or Discount tire versus HRE (which I love, but $1,000/rim seems excessive...but it is a $50,000 car).

The AMG style rims I have on the 99 have the clear coat coming off already and am unhappy with the quality. I'm just trying to avoid buying what I already have. In fact the replica wheels I have on the 400E are of better quality than the AMG's.

Thank you!

I'd just get your AMg's Polished. cost is around $50.00 per wheel.

OR they can be refinished for similar cost.

Ashman,

By having them polished will rid of the ugly clearcoat coming off? And are you saying to have them refinished would be $50 per wheel? The cheapest I've found thusfar is $300/set.

Thanks!

theres a shop out here that will do it for a good price. generally $50. per wheel on average. he polished my dad's amg's wheel lips, and cleaned the wheels up in the center, cost was less than $50. a wheel.

For polishing the whole wheel, probably around $65 - $95 depending on the wheels. still cheaper than a whole new set of wheels or replicas.

Alon,

I apologize for being niave on the subject, but does "polishing" a rim remove the clear and is the clearcoat then put back on? I have a quote of $75-$100 per rim to have them stripped and the clear coat put back on, but this sounds like more than "polishing" the rim.

I need to have everything removed, then put back on, new. Does this make sense? Essentially making it a newly coated rim.

Thanks for your help! I just want to make sure I'm getting what I need!

Takle care!
