Will 7.5x16 ET36-41 fit 86 300E?

I'm now leaning toward the 7.5x16 wheels for my 86 300E, but I'm concerned about clearance, both inboard with the front shock and outboard with the inner fender lip. An offset of 41 puts me 5mm closer to the shock and extends the outer edge of the wheel 21mm, while an offset of 36 gives me the same inboard clearance I have now (only about 10-12mm, I think) and extends the wheel outward by 26mm (1 inch). Will this extra inch cause a problem with the tire fouling the inner fender or bumper skirt? The largest tire I'd be considering would be a 215/50-16. (Any brand recommendations in this size tire?)

Providing everything clears, any drawbacks to this combination, handling-wise?

Thanks,

Gary

I believe that there is a tire/wheel 'calculator' at the Tire-Rack web site. Click above and surf, I think it may help.

I am shopping for tires for my 190E since I just got some new 16inch lorinser rims.. 16x7.5 et35

and the biggest tire I can fit on their (proven fact) is a 205\50\16

now I know the 300E is a bigger\different car but I just thought my info might help =D

I might end up going with 205\55\16 and just deal with the rubbing.. locate the areas it rubs and use a rubber mallet to bash in the parts it rubs at =)

16" x 7.5 ET37 with 205/55/16

I have 16" x 7.5" ET37 AMG wheels and I have 205/55/16 tires. I am planning to get 215/55/16 next time. I also dropped the car about an inch with Eibach springs and Bilstein HD shocks, and I have had not indication of any kind of rubbing.
