Question Identify AMG Wheels ? Fit to W124 E320 ?

I have 4 wheels AMG in quite good conditions (17*8) with 255/45/17 tires (that seems too large for me) The tires are out of order, because the wheels were on a car that did not move during several years.

My questions are :
What AMG wheel model is it ?

Do these wheels fit on my E320 coupe w124 ?

Is it possible to put 225/45/17 tires on theses wheels ?

If this is ok I will look if the repairs costs are ok.

Those are Monoblock I's and they were fitted to many different AMG models during the 80's. 225/45/17's will fit fine on 17x8 wheels. If you can look at the offset on the back of the wheel, I would be able to answer your other question.

They may be too wide for the car without fender modifications.

I believe you can run 17x7.5 ET35 with 225/45R17 without rubbing.

The Original

Yes they look like my AMG Monoblock I wheels (the original monoblocks), except the inside lip looks a bit wider than mine. I have seen pictures of the AMG Monoblock I wheels in which the lip is large like the ones you have. My wheels are 16" x 7.5" ET37, so maybe the lip is larger on the 17" x 8" wheels.

Fitting the wheels on a W124 will depend on the offset. With an 8" wheel, you are really pushing the limit, so the offset will have to be perfect. My 16" x 7.5" ET37 wheels, with 205/55/16 tires, fit rather close to the outside lip of the fenders on my 1995 E320. Everyone tells me that the 215/55/16 tire will fit on my car, although it seems like I will be very close and that it may rub on the fenders. I have stiffened up the suspension, however, so there is very little movement to push the tires up into the fenders and I may be OK with the maximum width.

I have read that ET41 provides the most clearance on both the inside and outside of the wheels and I have read that some people do use wheels that are as big as yours. As I remember, I think 225 is about as wide as you can go with the tires, although you may be able to get a bit more in the rear if you choose to use a staggered setup. There are definitely a lot of guys with W124s that are running 225/45/17 tires on 17" x 7.5" ET35 or ET37 wheels. You may just have to try it and see if it works, because every car seems to be just a little different.

I have checked the wheels this afternoon.

It is written 8J*17 H2, 112 and the offset seems to be 28 mm

I think the offset is too low

With a low offset like ET28, I am afraid those 8 inch wheels will stick out like big wheels on a 4 x 4 truck. I suppose they might work on the E500, which has the wider fenders. Too bad, unless you can find an owner of an E500 that really like s the "old school" look of the original AMG Monoblocks.

Those wheels are better suited for a R129 SL or of course 500E

They wont fit over the brakes!

Those wheels fit w123s, w126s, R107s, older cars perfectly.

They were made for those cars, but AMG put them on the AMG Hammer 300E, but It required some serious suspension work to get them to clear the fenders.

If you want them to go on your 300E w124 stock, you will have to put 225/45/17 on there, but 235/45/17 is really the correct tire for that rim.

You might want to get AMG fender spacers for the front and also roll the fender lips. Email me if you need more info about this.

Take it easy.

These are the same wheels on my (our) 91 CE, under construction. A few more changes are on the way. I have little or no problems with scrubbing. But, brace yourself guys. I am running 215/45/17 on all four corners.

I hope the G-T-G isn't too soon. The coupe is far from being ready for public consumption.

Minor rubbing.

If you do nothing and have the stock suspension (in good shape with no rear end sagging of any sort) on the car, the car can wear 235X45X17's all day long with just the occassional rub / scrub in the front on hard / fast turns and on the rear with back seat passengers. Roll those rear fenders to the max and you can wear 245X40X17 on the ol' gal.
I am currently running 245 x 40 x 17 Michilin Pilots on those AMG wheels and there is no rub in the back with 1" droped Eibach springs. As for the Fronts rubbing...fagetaboutit. I have the 500E front end assy and they never ever rub no matter what.
