Power Steering Difficult

I have a 2001 ML55 with 38k miles. Noticed recently that steering has recently become more difficult. Thought I was getting older and weaker; but wife has also noticed!! Tire pressure and fluid level okay. Power steering pump does not make any noticeable sounds. Can I fix or is it a problem with the power steering pump?
