Sticky Glue on Sunroof

I have a 2000 ML320 and love it. Lately I noticed a yellow sticky substance on the sunroof after opening and closing it. Is there a repair to address this? Wold this be covered under Starmark?

Thank You

glue

what is happening and will happen in other places is the sound insulation is coming loose. it becomes disloged from the suns heat. is your ml black? that seemed to be a common thread when i was at the dealer. when i was there the original warranty would cover it, and i believe the starmark would also, tell them the sunroof is binding and leave it at that. the main problem is this, if you go to the dealer they will tell you that the headliner has to be removed to fix this issue (8 hours labor or so), that is great if the starmark covers it, but not if you have to pay. this issue can be fixed by removing the moonroof glass and running the roof tracks back and with a very long putty knife or gently with a long screw diver you can remove it.
the next problem you will have is each door will probably have the same problem, so look closely at the bottom of each windo and see if it is contaminated with glue. hope this was a help. Ray

You may not have to dismantle the headliner in order to remove the sound insulation panel(s), (I also have a black ML...in "balmy" Texas) but in order to replace the panel(s), the headliner MUST come off! Going without the sound insulation panel will make for a noisy ride, especially if the moonroof is open.

The residue is hard to remove w/o some acetone-based cleaner (such as Goof Off), and every time you open the moonroof, it will make contact with the backside (sticky side) of the sound insulation panel(s) and return with another layer of glue.

My door panels did this first before the moonroof...fortunately, the factory warranty covered both.

Sticky Glue on Sunroof

mercedes benz of north america does not replace these panels, they just remove them, i did have a service bullitin on the subject somewhere, but i cannot find it. they had said it was because it would continue to happen and would result in excessive warranty claims. bottom line it would cost too much. so either way it will cost mercedes or the customer. would you pay repeatedly for that? 8 or more hours at $90- $100 dollars an hour?
seems excessive for a little sound.

MB seems to have a bit of trouble with adhesives... ...I've had to 3M a number of seals and stuff on all my models, when the OEM adhesives failed.
