I filled my tank- now gas is dripping on my garage floor.

I enjoyed a full two months since my last Mercedes ML320 repair.
I topped off my tank with Shell 93 octane tonight.
When I exited my truck (1999 ML320) I thought I smelled gas...my family concured the garage reeked. I just looked underneath..steady drip of gasoline. it is coming down the tank on the drivers side. I cant belive I am this 1st with this problem. Whats my cure ? thanks.

gas

did you allow the pump to stop on it's own? or did you try to get as much as you could in the tank? the newer mercedes cars are really sensative to overfilling.

i gave it another gallon after it clicked off.
Have you experienced this ?

--- You say they are sensitive to overfilling...
--- I am afraid I may not be as kind in my coice of words. The way I see it.. If you fill it FULL it leaks.

On my 2000 ML 320, I have found that I can get at least 2 more gallons in the tank after the first shut off, if I fill the remainder very slowly. I have never noticed any gasoline leaks. I like the extra range that the additional gallons give me before the next fill up. I have never noticed any adverse effects. I do make sure the cap is on tightly.

Sorry to hear about your problem, and I hope that it is a simple fix.

George

Steve, did you have fuel pump replaced recently? I had same problem on 99 ML430 after dealer replaced failed fuel pump. Next fill up I got a leak. Went back to dealership and they tighten the big nut on the top of the tank a little more. Still had a leak. It turns out they damaged the tank thread and had to replace a tank. All done under MB extended warrantee.

When you overfill, gas will flood the evap system runing the charcoal canister; also causes excessive rich conditions that will overhead the cat. There is a 10-20% air space in the tank for good reason.
