Thumbs up new battery install trouble - ML430 '99 (ESP/BAS came on)

51,000 miles. Orig battery died REALLY suddenly and REALLY dead - would not crank even jumped from towtruck. Took dead battery out, had it checked at Kragen (parts store). Bought new replacement battery, drove back to ML430, and installed - ESP/BAS light came on and stays on. (Car was without battery for maybe 1 hour.) Car now starts as usual, but BAS/ESP warning light is on and once I press gas pedal the motor keeps searching for an idle speed. Also gas pedal seems ineffective. I could idle the car to a dealership, on surface streets. Owners Manual is missing, so I'm at a loss re the meaning of this ESP/BAS warning light. My guess is that something(s) need to be reset after having been without power. I HOPE THAT'S ALL IT IS!!

lights

ther are a couple of thing to do first start the engine and turn the steering wheel from full left to full right as fast as you can, do it several times, this should reset the lights, after that turn off the engine and turn the key on, leave the key on engine off for 5 minutes, turn it off and restart, it should now accellerate fine. als if you are using an exide battery i strongly recomment to get either an original one ar at the veryleat an interstate brand, i have had several ML's and others come in to our shop and the cheapo batteries have created havoc on the electrical systems. let me know how it goes. send email if you want

Owners manual contains reset procedures required after battery removed or dead.

THANKS AGAIN for the great info. The part about the key was not in my owners manual. After all these years, this info was still helpful!
