The ML not being like the MB's of old does not have a filter for the power steering fluid, at least as far as I could tell. I changed my fluid by draining the old when I changed out the power steering return line for a new one. I don't think there is a recommended change inteval for power steering fluid. I guess it's supposed to last forever like the auto gearbox oil.
