This is my first question regarding my '99 ML320. Twice today the car would not start. The starter cranked, but the engine did'nt seem to be getting any gas. After 20-30 tries and about 15 min of staring at the engine compartment wondering what the heck was wrong with my car, the engine did turn over and the car ran fine. Then while stuck in some traffic later in the day at a stop light the engine just died. The same thing all over again, the engine would crank but it didn't appear the engine was getting any gas. More time and more dumb looks into the engine compartment and finally it turned over and again ran fine.

I travel alot in my business and usually have my car serviced at a different dealer every time. I never had any clue that new filters were supposed to be installed in this model back in 2001, and I don't recall every being charged for a new filter. Also sinice I am usually forced to use a different dealer every time for my A and B services I've gotten mixed up with which one is due.

Any clues?

Probably A Crank Shaft Position Sensor , When It Gets Hot The Sensor Goes Open Circuit , Car Will Not Get Fuel Or Spark If Not Getting A Crank Signal , Have Seen Several At My Dealer . Also Would Check Service Rec. To See If Filter Has Been Replaced , If Not Would Rec. Replacing . Hope This Helps .
