Hi,

My wife just bought a used '98 ML320. As I always do, I immediately went to the MBZ dealer to buy the shop manual. I was amazed when I heard that MBZ no longer publishes shop manuals for vehicles in production. My first question is: Does anyone know how to obtain an electrical wiring diagram for this "car"?

My second question involves the fog lamps: there aren't any. There is a switch on the dash for them, there is a spot in the headlamp assembly for them, there are instructions in the owner's manual on how to operate them, but they're not installed (no wiring whatsoever into the headlamp assembly for them). The dealer says that they're not legal here, so they're not available. I'd like to try them anyway. Any thoughts on what parts I'd have to buy to install them, and how to get them?

Thanks, -David Pease

You might check here (at parts shop) for a CD with technical information

Re the fog lights. you’d have to either bribe the shop to program the AAM computer or buy some external fog lights so they won’t be “breaking the law.” The only part you really need are the h3 bulbs. On Edmunds.com this topic has been discussed extensively. Here’s the URL:

Congradulations on the purchase of a ML! If at all possible I strongly recommend getting a warranty with the vehicle. The early ML’s had typical first year production issues. . .

Regards

…Tracy

David, congrats to your wife on her purchase. Still don't know if it's a car or truck eh? Don't worry just give it a name I don't know where you live, but dealers might give you a lot of hassle if you want to enable the foglamps. If you live in any of the following states it's illegal. The following info is shamelessly lifted from somewhere on the internet. Remember it's ILLEGAL in the following states:

AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN, KA, LA, MD, MI, MO, NV, NM, ND, OH, SD, SC, TX, WA, WV.

I don't know why you want to look at the wiring diagram. EVERY ML owner knows that wiring the two relays that control the front and rear fogs will do the trick.

Dave, That switch on the dash also works the rear fog light which is located in one of the stop lights. I believe the down postion is the rear.(wasn t sure if you were aware of that) . Mark 99 ML, 98 E 430 PS The ML is my wifes.
