I need to check the torque values for the driver's side valve cover on my '99 320. There may be a small leak from the gasket. What is the torque number? Also, what is the name, size, and where do I find a socket for the cover bolts?

I believe it is 20 or 25 Nm. U need external torx socket. don't remember size, you can get a set from auto store at reasonably good price. There are half a dozen or so of short bolts and 2 long bolts. The short bolts are easy to break, so don't over tighten them. If you are lucky, you may manage to break them when untighten the bolts. Anyhow, u will also need to get the loctite 5900 (or the MB brand from your dealer) gasket sealant. Make sure the sealing area is cleanned from the residual oil before applying the sealant.
