Oil Filter Installation Confusion

I was reading the DIY article on the site: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/OilFilter2

And noticed the instruction to fully seat the oil filter up onto the stalk, which appears to mean pushing it up into the cap end as far as it will go; however on the leaflet that was enclosed with my MB fleece filter from the dealer, the graphics seem to indicate you should stop when the base of the filter is flush with the 3rd gasket area (counting up from the smallest at the tip toward the cap) which is a little short of being pushed all the way into the cap. Just wondering if this is significant/important or if it doesn't make any real difference.

Thanks, love the site.
