transmission cooler lines

My ML430 is about to reach the century mark. 99190 to be exact. We were blessed to have a great service manager because when we asked him to take a look at this sound coming from the tranny, he discovered that the tranny was toast. Wheew, saved about 5k on that one, Fletcher Jones Mercedes changed the tranny for us, NC!!
So yesterday we took her in for an "A" service and they noticed the trans cooler lines were leaking and they replaced both of them. Question is, looking through my records this is the second time these cooler lines were found leaking and replaced. I this something I have to keep an eye on constantly since I'm going to be out of warranty soon.
1.WHY DO THESE LINES KEEP ON LEAKING???
2.Will a bad leak kill my tranny.

Thanks for your help.
