Cool Mbz Cert. Tech Advise ... Off Road Use Of Ml320

Merry Christmas To All.

I Have A 2nd Home In Manzanillo, Mx. Where I Have Been Keeping A '96 Montero Sr For Use In That Area And Along The Mexico Pacific Coast Area. I Have Been Reserved To Bring My '98 Ml There, But Now Am Beginning To See More Ml's In The Area So I Am More Comfortable To Have On There Now. Also Due To The Winding Coastal Roads, The Ml Will Be Great For Driving There.

I Am Considering Selling The Sr And Putting The Ml There At This Time.

The Sr Is A Monster Concerning Its Abilities In Sand Etc 4h, 4l, 4hlc, 4llc, + Rear Diff Lock Option. * Have Been Stuck In Some Major Sand, On A Isolated Beach Before, And The Rdl Saved My You Know What (( Stuck For 6 Hours Once On A Isolated Beach 4 Miles Thru A Jungle To The Nearest Road.... Not To Fun But Learned My Lesson Believe Me ... ))

1> Given I Have Little Experience With The Ml In Off Road Situations, What Opinions Or Experience Could Anyone Offer Me On The Abilitiy Of The Ml In Such Off Road Instances. I Have Full Faith In Mbz But Would Like To Know Of Any Experiences Others May Have In Proving The Ml In Real Situations.

Concerning Specs, The Ml = 3.2l; 215 Hp; 5 Spd Trans & Good Mileage

The Montero = 3.5 L; 215 Hp; 4 Spd Tran; And Bad Mileage; But Again
It Has Proven Itself.

2> The Ml Has 132k And Is Solid In All Areas. Wondering If There Are Any Things Suggested I Change Out As Preventative Steps.

Ie> Shocks, < Roads Can Be Bad There, Any I Want To Deal With
These Types Of Things Here. Recommend Orig Or Other Type ?
Air Mass Sensor .. No Problems With This But Is It Advisable
To Change It At 132 K. Recommendations Are Welcome.

Oh Yea Would Larger Tires Be Recommended, Or Are Standard Size Ok. (running Michelins Now. But The Ml Just Seems A Little Low
As Is For Some Of The Road Situations I Have Encountered.

Any One Have Info On The Ml Suspension Vs The Montero Suspension, I Am Sure The Ml Is More Sophisticated But Specifics
Would Be Helpful.

Plugs, Wires, Changed Out At 120k, Trans Fluid Changed At 115k, I Have To Pull Records On The Transfer Case Oil Service, Can Not Remember Now.

Well I Guess The Point Is Out There, So Advise And Experiences Concerning The Ml In True Off Road Experience Would Be Appreciated.

Well Thanks For The Replies, And I Will Be Heading Down That Way At The End Of January So No Rush, But I Would Like To See What I Need To Do And Chip Away Starting The 1st Part Of '07
