ML 320 brake fluid type
Hey Pros,
I'd appreciate if anyone can give me a hint on the right type of brake fluid for ML320 (year 2000). On the reservior cap it calls out for DOT 4+. Dose this mean DOT 5 is even a better choice? How about DOT 3 & 4 ? Does Synthetic fluid better than the conventional one? Thank a million for your kind response, ![]() BR/PY |

No, do NOT use Dot 5!
Dot 4 or Dot 4+ is correct.

Just out of curiosity, why is DOT-5 Brake Fluid not recommended? I was under the impression that the higher number included specs for the lower ones.
Cheers, Jeff

I bought a litre of MB DOT 4+ the other day from my local dealer, and it was "only" $9, which is not too outrageous (not like say the gallons of coolant).
Stick with the MB fluid on this one. It is cheap insurance against problems. |

You a system that has NEVER has regular brake fluid to convert to Dot 5.
You would need to have gallons of Dot 5 to get the system clean enopugh to run

Brake fluid - ML320
Hey Pros,
Could anyone provide a an answer for the correct bracke fluid to use on a Year 2000 ML320. On the reservior cap it says to use DOT 4+. Does this mean a DOT is even better? How about DOT 3&4? Is synthetic brake fluid is better than the traditional one or vise versa? ![]() Thanks for your advice, BR/PY |

From what I understand DOT 4 is the same as DOT 3, but has a higher boiling temp. Dot 5 is not to be used with Antilock brakes.

DOT 5 is silicone fluid and is not to be mixed with DOT 4.
