transfer case radial seal
How often does this seal need replacing? it's #2 in the picture. I replaced the center support bearing and now I have a very small leak coming from the neck of output flange (#3). I am wondering if this is just a coincident, or that I didn't align the center bearing correctly. There is only one position for the bearing support to be bolted to the frame. I am a bit at a lost.

That seal is somewhat simple. Remove the rear driveshaft & un-bolt the output flange.

Doc,
yes, the instruction I have pretty much indicates that. Do you know if the speical tool is really needed? (The tool to remove the output flange after the bolt is off).

A basic puller may be required depending on how much omni-fit is on the splines. Most of the time it isn't required.

I finally replaced the seal and I have to say that it's a b*tch to do. The seal only costs $7 or so but it is actually a piece of metal coated in rubber. I spent 2 hours trying to pry the darn thing out lying under the car with limited work space. once out, replacement was easy. I used the following tools:
1. counter holder 2. $100 drift punch alternative (how's the 99 cents PVC pipe sound?) 3. 30mm thin wall deep socket pic of the old pos seal also shown

dealer is your only option. It's just a piece of rubber with some steel backing. I think it cost me less than $10.
