Passenger-Side Mirror Smashed - 99 ML430
Backing out of the garage, my wife got a little too close to the garage door track and and smashed the passenger mirror housing (back and front). The mirror guts appear to be intact - mirror glass, motors etc.
Info on this forum seems a little skimpy for this problem.... C'mon guys, I'm sure this has happened a bunch of times. Fess up. With how far the mirrors stick out on a wide vehicle, I was betting it was a matter of time, and yesterday was the time. I'd appreciate part numbers for the plastic housing, front and back, suggestions for where to buy the parts, and tips for removal/replacement. Thanks, Al |

Either special order here OR from a dealer. Otherwise try a MB "boneyard".
I would disassemble first to make sure that ANY parts are reuseable. Most likely a used one would be the least $$$

In the daylight, disassembly was easy and logical (because the thing came off in my hands) EXCEPT for the little tiny star-shaped screw at the location shown. Anyone know how to order the screwdriver for that? I can't get close enough to measure it, and I prefer not to force it. Thanks. |

Answered my own question - so THAT'S why I bought that Torx set a few years ago.
