2007 North American Sprinter - Keeping Rubberlike Components Working Well
I have a 2007 Freightliner Sprinter.
I was under the front end last weekend and noticed that some of my bushings and other various rubber-ish components are beginning to “age,” to “look weathered,” to look like chapped, gray skin.
303 Aerospace Protectant seems to be popular amongst the detailers for dash boards and weather seals/door gaskets, hoses and other rubber-ish items. Wurth, Gummipfledge, Sonus products are also mentioned, but these are not nearly as readily available as 303 or Meguiars #40 Vinyl/Rubber Conditioner.
Would 303 or Meguiars #40 be suitable for use on the rubber-ish items that connect moving metal (suspension/steering) parts; the rubber-ish items that provide cushioning like sway bar bushings, the rubber on stabilizer links (service manual identifier, not mine), and control arms etc?
I don’t really care about “shiny,” I just don’t want things to wear, crack or fail before entropy wins.
Some of the objects have a healthy coat of cosmoline and I’m not planning to remove it.
Others do not, and I assume that’s for a good reason, so the parts w/o cosmoline are the ones I’d like to keep pliable and in good working order.
If there's a prescribed, superior product, I will order and use it. I'm just a sucker for convenience.
Thanks for any advice
-Jon
