1999 ml 430 dies

We have an ml 430 here that dies out of the blue, coasts over to the side of the road wait a minute or two restart and drive off. It does not matter hot or cold, we replaced the crank sensor several months ago when it had a hard time starting, and just replaced it again as a test for this problem. Attach to the test equipment and no fault codes show up! Any suggestions please? It would die five times in five miles but restart every time after sitting a minute.
