Fog lights on 1998 ML

Gilly,

my buddy got his fog light switch activated on his 98 ML. But his doesn't illuminate the green indicator as on my 99. Does a bulb need to be installed in the dash cluster for this? Just wondering...

Thanks again!

On mine there was a different routine done by the dealer to activate the lights than the routine done to activate the indicator light on the dash.

Foglight indication in cluster

Kevin:
This is a seperate activation. The dealer needs to go into the cluster (electronically, not physically) and enable that function. The only thing is that I don't believe it was possible on a 98 for some reason. I think the green window is there, possibly even the bulb (on a 99 for example the bulb doesn't need to be added in the cluster) I think it's all there, it's more like the programming for it to be enabled was left out. if you have an understanding dealer, maybe they could look and see if the option exists in the cluster version coding. When I have used the integral foglights on our shop truck, I thought the green indicator was too bright anyways. It can be programmed (on a 99 or newer anyways) to come on, or left off, makes no difference, personal preference. We always program them to come on.

This is not possible with the '98 because there is no bulb installed. After '99 the setting is found in the instrument cluster sub-menu, option 11. It's "Fog Lamp" and should be set to YES.

Some people have found the green light to be quite annoying.

I had mine activated, too. Although at first I liked to have the green indicator activated on the dash but after a few people have told me that it's too bright at night I didn't press my SA to have that activated. Although, he told me that they cannot (don't know) activate it.
