98 ml320 won't start, do I need AAM

I have a 98 ml320, battery was down, I charged it over night it did not take a charge, I replaced the battery now it will start but only for a second or two. The dealer tells me I need an AAM, is this true? If so can I purchase an AAM from a recycler and install it?

If the AMM is bad the CEL should be lit up and a code present.

They can be sparyed clean with CRC MAF (use no other) cleaner sometimes. I'd try that before a junkyard part.

he is asking about the AAM, the All Activities Module. Unfortunatly, IF you can get an AAM from a recycler, you'll need all keys and all door locks as well. If you get an AAM from the dealer, it will be coded to work with your vehicle and as long as you haven't used up all 8 keys available, you should be ok with just that.

Have you tried another key yet? A bad key can cause the car to start and die right away. Charging the battery or jumping the car with the key in the ignition can blow the key. You can put the key in the ignition, turn it to on position, and look for the little red light to blink above the aux light switch on the dash. No red light means not drive authorization.

that's why I was wondering how many of the vehicles keys have been used up. Usually the key is replaced first unless all keys have been used then its AAM time.
