Alarm goes on for no reason every few minutes

Hi,

Since the cold came here I have a very annoying problem with my 2001 ML 320 and I was wondering if someone can help me.

My alarm starts by itself over and over again every few minutes. I can confirm that there’s nobody touching the car or anything, so I’m guessing there is a sensor issue. During the day everything is fine but after 11PM it just goes crazy.

As it disturbs my neighbors I tried stopping it by unplugging the alarm horn fuse but with no luck. After another few minutes it restarted again. The only way to shut it off was to unplug the car battery.

Did anyone else have this problem before and if yes how did you solve it? Do you think it could be due to a faulty alarm sensor and if yes where are these sensors located? What about disabling the alarm without disconnecting the battery every evening? Do you think I should I take off the relay also?

Thanks,
Ovi

Hmm,

I don't have a tow hook but I do have a problem with my spare wheel carrier. It's blocked since last month. Do you think that could be the problem?

Thanks.

Tow switch is inside the car. Do you have an owners manual?

Oh, ok. I'll have a look in the manual to see where it is located.

Thanks again.

Hey M.B.DOC,

Can you please give me some more details on that tow hook switch? I'm not sure where I can find it.

Thanks a lot,
Ovi

Alarm

I had the same problem on a '99 ML430. Alarm would go off for no reason. They said it was the sensor that detects the vehicle has been lifted (like towing) which is linked into the security system. I don't recall if they reprogrammed or diabled it.

Is the horn that sound the 2 horns mounted in front of the wheel wheels of the one near the brake fluid reservoir. If near the reservoir, I'd personally just disconnect it until I could resolve the issue. Have you tried parking in a different position (pointed down vs up, etc.)

Good luck and be sure to let us know the outcome.

Ok, for the time being I am not using the remote key to lock the car. I am locking each door manually by pushing the lock stick so the alarm remains off even with the car completely locked.

However, I would like to investigate more the tow hook issue. Are you reffereing to the button I have just above the mirror beside the lightbulb? Should I switch it on off or on?

Yes, the switch that looks like a car on a hook & line.
Try pressing that switch as you get out of the car.

INFO on that switch should be in your owners manual...around page 36
