NEW GL450 issues
My wife just received her brand new(55 miles on the odometer) GL450 and we have a few questions as new MB owners.
1. The auto close button doesn't engage enough when fully closed to turn off the interior lights. It does engage however when slightly lifted from the exterior. Is there a simple fix for this? 2. The low tire pressure light has come on a few times on my dash computer. I have aired the tires to the PSI indicated on the drivers door panel (well below the MAX PSI printed on the tire), but still got the error light. Also, how do you view the individual tire pressures from the dash computer? (I get stuck on: menu-R button???) 3. When going over the car to check everything out, I noticed that the rear wheel wells are made of fabric(?). They are plastic on the front. Is this normal? If so, why is this made this way? It seems that it would become disgusting, not to mention fall apart easily. Much Thanks! MYMB ![]() |

Thanks supradupe!
We have already arranged to get it back to the dealer for correction, but we wanted to have some information pertaining to if many others were having similar issues with their vehicles. Also we just wanted to be a little more "knowledgable" in talking about our issues with the dealership. But getting it into the dealership is certainly a must - we agree! We appreciate your help! None of those issues should be happening if the car's PDI was done properly.
Was the car a dealer trade & where do you live?

I'm looking into GL's as we speak and found many issues, including yours above, discussed on Edmunds:

2. Where do you live? If it is somewhere cold, this is not uncommon, as until the tires warm up, or if the temp drops real low after you checked them, it can trip the light. The tire pressures listed in the door are COLD pressures. If you are checking them hot, add an extra 4 PSI, as that is around what you loose based on the tire being cold (parked) and warm (spinning generating friction with the road). Again, weather plays a big roll in this. If you checked them when it was 40 outside, and then a week later the truck was parked outside and it is 5 degrees out, the pressures have dropped, but will come back up when it warms up (can you tell I am from the midwest where this happens every freaking day in January). 3. These are the same as on the newer generation MLs and they are like that to reduce road noise. I said the same thing, but they do not hold dirt like you would think, and when you wash the car, if you spray a regular garden hose in there, they amazingly come out looking like new. That is one high tech fabric, and mine are 2 years old with 34k miles and show no signs of wear. |

I don't believe you have an issue with tire pressure monitoring.
Rather, you should read the owner's manual. The system doesn't look for a particular pressure but rather just notes when pressure has fallen from that that existed the last time the system was reset. Read owners manual and reset it. Putting in air is not a reset.
