Revving up a ML320 or ML430 at idle ?

Hi,

One of my friend's is looking to buy a ML430 or a ML320. In couple of cars we saw, we were unable to rev up the engine beyond 4000 rpm at idle. I only had experience with my 260E which has no problem going all the way up to 6000 rpm and that too very quickly. Infact, the ML430 began to shake at 4000 rpm.

So my question is whether this is normal on M class ? Thats what the used car salesman said (I dont believe though), would trust opinion on this forum more.

I cant imagine that MB would put a gauge that goes all the way upto 8000 rpm only to clip the engine at 4000 rpm.

Thanks

Saumil
