Mine is going For a coupla reasons I mentioned in the other thread. I'm tired of watching the fake burlwood trim warp, the plastic parts, the keys not working, the lousy heat, wind noise, noisy moonroof. It uses a bit of oil, not too much, somewhere around a quart every 10k miles.

kuan,

A quart every 10K is pretty good. I doubt anyone would notice a quart every 10k. I doubt any other car could claim, better. Because most cars would have the oil changed between 3-5K.

Kuan:

I solved the noisy moonroof issue with a $35 deflector...it's like night and day!

Kuan,

You really only change oil every 10K? Ew

BTW, I second G-Benz comment about the wind deflector. Since putting one on Casper, it made the difference between the defining roar you are painfully familiar with and the ability to carry on a normal conversation while traveling at 80 mph or even more. Got mine at www.clairparts.com. Since buying mine, i found there are others that even have little air jets to permit you to aim some airflow into the cabin. Cool (literally)

Uh... not! I figured that based on one of the many 7/8 full quart bottles of oil laying around. Took around 10k miles to use one of those. Hrm... I just realized how bad that is. Bad science, real bad science

Had me worried there for a minute. You know, that reminds me, the last time I changed the oil in the ML I took all of the empties and let them drain for about 10 minutes each into one of the quart containers. After all was done there was about ¼ quart left from about 8 quarts installed. I was impressed with how much stayed in the containers!

To Kuan and oil change concerns.
I'm not a Mercedes engineer and I don't think anyone else in this D Board is, so why the major concern about waiting to change the oil at 10K. I've got a 96 Chevy Tahoe that they only recommend changes at 7500 mi.
Why would Mercedes design a sealed oil lubrication system that diagnostically measures your driving habits and cleanliness of the oil and then adjusts the computer to tell you when to go in for service if they wanted you to change the oil every 4000 mi.
Come on folks forget the past. First of all you should have switched to synthetic as recommended by Mercedes by now. And the computer tells you at the latest 9000 mi. interval that you can go in for the service, which gives you 1000 mi. to schedule it.

5th post and starting trouble already :D

Careful, don't wanna come to blows here about oil! It's been brought up a couple three four times before. I change my own oil, it's much easier and I have a chance to vacuum out the truck, clean the seats, windows, etc.

I'm on your side Kuan and was replying to people questioning you about waiting to change the oil. GO back and read the post... no 5th post and not causing trouble.

No but I DO change my oil every 5-7k miles! I was just saying this is a hotly debated topic. I'm not on one side or the other about dino vs. synthetic, 5k vs 10k. For some reason I feel it's well worth the eztra peace of mind to change the oil a little earlier than recommended.

There certainly is no real downside to frequent oil and filter changes except perhaps cost, and I don’t know too many folks that buy a $40+K vehicle and then cheap out. I am positive that there are a lot, but don’t personally know any. Of course, on a similar note, some folks will wait until the steel belts are showing in their vehicle’s tires before they deem them ready for change

blau,

That was g-benz, not me. He's the one with the wind deflector.
