ML320 broken rear springs....arghhh

What a steaming pile, I bought it new and it just broke 40k miles.

Both rear coil springs are broken in several places, and you have to replace the whole strut assembly. No individual parts available, unless you want to lower it(no thanks).

I noticed the ride had become pretty harsh, closer inspection revealed the broken springs.

I guess I have no choice but to bite the bullet and pay over $600 for the pair of rear struts for what is a glorified minivan.

Thanks... I just had to vent.

Edward, recommend taking your ML320 back to the closest MB dealer and show them the broken springs. I would expect them to be under warranty at that low mileage. If not, they may split the replacement cost with you.

Since they haven't made that type ML since 2002, doubt that any warranty is still in effect.

Not uncommon on that vehicle, a few too many domestic (North America) sourced parts!

Have you checked with Phil, HERE?

Thanks for the suggestions.

The dealer wanted $360 + tax last month to replace the battery. I ended up buying a OBDII memory saver with built in battery and bought the batter over the counter at the dealer for $140, so I really doubt they will do anything for me even though I bought the car from them.

I guess I didn't do my homework before I bought the ML320, I was spoiled after driving various W111,W109,W123, and W126 models.

It's not a horrible car, just no better than any other midsize suv. I got what I paid for.
