Ml350 balance shaft
Purchased a 2006 ml350, 63k miles from an independent dealer Oct 2011. Prior to my purchase it was dealer owned and a personal lease. CEL came of and on and was told by dealer it was gas cap, CEL came on and stayed on and was told two months ago the balance shaft needs to be replaced. MB doesn't want to help me with repairs for two reason: bought from independent dealer ( whom isnt returning my calls and I filed a complaint with bbb) and because I havent taken it to N MB dealer to get maintained ( kind hard to do when I haven't had it long enough to even get the oil changed). Mb told me they looked up VIN and it is not one of the "problem" cars!!! It seems like no one wants to help me with this, everyone wants to pass the buck and treat me like I am nothing because I bought it from an independent. I don't understand, aren't all MB cars built by the same manufacture? So MB only honors their cars if you are the only owner? I traded my vw for ML350 and I am regretting that move! I have an ML 350 sitting in my garage that I can not afford to repair and the warranty that the dealer gave me will not cover because it's a manufacture issue..any suggestions?

get a good lawyer... your complaint to the BBB prolly wont amount to anything. Take the care back to the dealer. they cannot ignore you if you are there. if they do and pass the buck. some of the ML's have a nickname...they are built in Alabama (last time I heard the name anyways) the dealer lied to you if they said it was only a gas cap if you diddnt have the code read. I assume you did not have a PPI done on this vehicle?

Call MBUSA Customer Care and explain the situation. Don't leave anything out, tell them everything (they're very thorough when it comes to verifying claims made by owners). I'd be surprised if they don't find a way to resolve your problem.

I'm in the middle of replacing a balance shaft now, some dealers warranty them indefinitely. This car has 136K+, I'd keep after the dealers, where are you located?

I am located near Denver, CO. I contacted MBUSA and they told me they aren't going to help with the repair because I am the second owner and I bought it from an independent dealer. THe independent dealer hasn't helped me at all, now my dash board has a life of its own and comes on when the car isn't even on. I am going to prob get the balance shaft fix and trade it in and go back to VW! I can't believe this is happening. The situation is so weird because all of the dealers that have maintained this car (MB dealers) are passing the buck to each other. It was dealer owned for about a yr by one of the dealers that I have been in contact with and then they took it to auction. My gut is telling me that they new something was wrong and that is why they took it to auction----because now everyone is putting their hands up (including MBUSA) If anyone knows of anyone that can help me, please let me know---it's still sitting in the garage.

When I spoke with MBUSA, the employee pulled up my VIN, put me on hold (after I told her EVERYTHING) and in short said that this VIN wasn't one that MB has as a "problem" and that they can't help me. I was balling my eyes out....I have totally been screwed!

I'm a little confused, when you bought the vehicle, was it labeled as having a manufacturers warranty? Seems like it would be out of warranty by now? Did the selling dealer claim that either they or MBZ warrantied the vehicle?
