ML window switch removal

Hello! Long time Benz owner but first post here. We purchased a used 1998 ML 320 and were prepared for some updates! The passenger rear window will not work and I have followed the posts about removing the entire switch panel, but can't get the wood to lift up. It seems way too tight and it appears that it could be damaged if I apply what I think will be enough upward pressure to remove it. Any help would be appreciated. TIA
