I am trying to figure out if my 2000 430 ML has the trailer hitch or just the spare tire removal mechanism behing the bumber.

I removed the square in the middle of the bumber. It looks like that is the area to release the spare tire. However the Benz dealer tells me that it has a hitch. I cannot see the part the hitch would slip into?

Can someone enlighten me!!

Hitches are for towing boats and for bike racks, etc.. I have the OEM one and its great for towing things! see the botton of the license plate? theres a thing sticking out? thats it! if you need a bike rack I have one for sale =P holds two bikes perfect for the ML since its foldable! you can open your trunk with the bike rack installed still YES!

Are you telling me that the hitch attaches to the bottom of the license plate? There is not frame there. I don't understand, how can that hold up?

Did you mean behind the bumber, if so where exactly because I see the frame but them only see the devise that lowers the spare tire.

see that square thing??? under the bumper RIGHT in the MIDDLE! that is my hitch! its 2 inches long, do you have this on your ML? it has nothing to do with the spare tire!
