design of ml air filter
I recently noticed the replacement filter has a section which is lower than the other; the original filter on my 98 ml 320 was all of the longer length. Is the new design better?

Yes this is a better design from what the Mercedes dealer says as it allows the in coming rushing air not to be blocked as with the older filter design. I have had mine replaced and the car runs smoother as a result.

Air filter is ok, After market MANN is a good quality filter, it too has the differences in paper element thicknesses.

What is the orientation for this air filter
Can anybody tell which side the shorter section goes ? The air intake side ?

The way I understand it the short side goes towards the firewall.
