Door locks go on and off .

Have a 2001 ML55; the dealer just completed schedule A maintenance. Shortly after maintenance performed the door locks have been going off and on during stop and go driving. Also, when locking the vehicle with the key pad the parking lights do not flash and the rear hatch door does not lock! Door locks go off and on, after coming to a complete stop, then accelerating...sounds like locking multiple times. Has anyone experienced this problem and can it be fixed without taking the vehicle back to the dealer?

Updated 07-05-2004 04:15 PM. Called tele-aid system; suggested I change fuse #42 (20amp); did not fix problem. Anyone have other suggestions...somewhat afraid to drive because of sound of multiple door locks!! Help.

Your tailgate lock mechanism needs to be replaced. Happened to me and lots of others. Some call it the machine gun locks. You can disable the annoying relock deal by disabling the autolock feature. It's in the manual. I think you put the key in the position right before start and with the doors closed, hold down the unlock button for 5 seconds until it unlocks the doors. Enable using the same method, but hold down the lock button.

Thanks Q. Do you know if Mercedes dealers normally stock the rear door lock mechanism?? Otherwise, will be a couple of more days for them to get the part!!

The rear locking actuator was stocked at the little dealership I worked at, should be stocked most everywhere, common failure.

Door locks go on and off .

Dropping off ML55 to local Mercedes dealership this Friday...appreciate the information on stocking of part....maybe will get back the same day!!Disengaged automatic door locks...so do not have to hear door locks going off and on some 20+ times a day. Again, many thanks....this forum is absolutely the best way for a novice like me to find out problems with my ML55 and how to fix them..

replacing door lock mechanism

Does anyone have a step by step procedure on how to DIY replace the rear door lock mechanism and the part numbers of the parts involved?
