I believe a copy will work. You almost need to be a computer guru to know for sure, and I'm no guru. I can't imagine it wouldn't work, a copied cdrom nav disc will work. Not sure on the software update question, not sure what you mean by that.

If the person selling it is your friend, tell him you want to try it to make sure it works, would your friend try ripping you off?? If it's just a burned copy, you'd think a true friend would want to just GIVE it to you free. I mean sheeesh I give away all this info for nothin' and I don't hardly know you guys......

You are right.....you should be charging us for this info you provide... This person is a friend of a friend..you know...that kind As for the software issue....l originally had the 2002.1 version, and when l updated it, with the 2002.2 version, the screen went blank when l inserted the newer DVD, then a screen popped up, indicating that it was downloading the new file..that took about a minute, then it was done..........l'd be concerned that a copy would not be able to do this...

I recently got a copy of the new 2004.1 Navigation CD version from a fellow on another forum and it updated my software etc without any problem. This was the third update of the MCS Navgation Unit since my truck was new in late 1999.

Azinn, can you clarify for me? Did you get an 2004.1 update of the multi-disc CD NAV? I was told on another forum that they didn't have update past when they abandoned CD in favor of DVD. I have a 2002 ML500 with 2001.1 software. The database detail is slim to none once you're off primary roads here in New England. I was looking to simply update the disc to hopefully gain more detail. If not I was thinking of coverting to the DVD system (which is a whole other set of questions I'll ask later.) Thanks,

Nav disc copy

I have talked to some IT techs about copying the DVD based disc or CD rom set and apparently there is a software licensing protection encoded on each disc. Your computer would need the conversion software to allow the disc to work. If some of you say the disc works without any glitches than you are lucky. Blockbuster does this same sort of thing on their rentals to ensure they are not copied. I write this not to discourage, just to help.

Yes, I got a copy of the 2004.1 version of CD 6 & 9. They work great. As far as more detail, I don't think they have any more than the originals did. I still have a lot of areas here in Ohio and Florida that still show a lot of empty blank spaces. The navigation CD's seem to favor the larger metropolitan areas more so than the smaller less populated regions. I also doubt the DVD is any better except that you have one disc to cover the whole US. You might check with someone who has the DVD version. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks. I'm surprised by the MB nav detail problem. We have a 2004 Mini Cooper S with DVD navigation that is superb. It knows all the back roads around here. I've used Navtech marine products have have generally liked them. To me the benefit of GPS nav is when I'm off the main roads not when I'm cruising the interstate. I'll figure something out.
