The phone for Ultimate car service is 718-361-9515.
Alex, is there any shop you would recommend in Westchester, especially in the lower part of the county? The tranny on my 88 300ce needs attention. & Ultimate suggested a dealer in Queens, Helms or Silver Star, for that. Thanks.

Hi Richard, the guys at Ultimate suggested you go to a dealer for your trans. service?
The place my family uses is called Doug's Foreign Car Service in Mamaroneck, NY (we're from Larchmont).
He seems really honest and works really quickly (he rebuilt part of the front axle on our Land Cruiser in much less time than we expected).
His labor rate is $75, which seems kind of steep but I guess it's worth it. He's accustomed to repairing Mercedes and BMWs and he's less enthusiastic about fixing other cars.
He's always swamped with work so he'll be honest about what you need and don't need, he also knows where all the good specialty service shops are in his area are (glass, tranny, detailing, alignment, etc.).
He had some guy do an alignment on my 300D and it has remained straight for three years now, longer than any alignment I've ever had.
His number is 914-698-3100 and he's open from 8 AM to 6 PM weekdays, the shop is located on Centre St. off of Fenimore Rd.

Doug's Foreign Car Service
501 Center Avenue
Mamaroneck, NY 10543-2205
(914) 698-3100

Good luck

Alex

When I went to take a look in the service bays, I couldnt see my vehicle anywhere. I went and found the service manager and asked him where my car was. When I asked him he scratched his head and said that he had no idea where it went. After walking around the place with him looking for it, I saw a mechanic pull up in it. The guy was eating Burger King and, get this, the car still had my old tires on it. I was pissed. After finally getting the tires installed, I told the service manager that he needs to make sure that he lets the service guys know when a customer will wait for their car, just so a customer doesnt see that crap again.

You get the work done for free?

A businessman blew a gasket when he found out a Mercedes dealership mechanic allegedly took his $80,000 SUV on an unauthorized road trip.

Fred Asher, 30, told The Post yesterday he took his swank black four-wheel drive G500 to Helms Brothers Mercedes-Benz in Bayside, Queens, Wednesday morning for a 10,000-mile checkup.

But when Asher returned in the evening to pick it up, employees there told him they didn't know where it was and sent him home with a loaner car. The dealership called a day later to tell him they were waiting for parts and that the car would be ready Friday.

But when Asher showed up Saturday afternoon, he said, "Half an hour passed. They said, 'We're having a little problem finding your car. Just take another loaner car and we'll find it on Monday.' "

But Asher was out of patience. He called police, as well as OnStar, the onboard tracking system.

Cops followed the signal to 186th Street and Hillside Avenue in Hollis, where they nabbed Bramday Sundown - a Helms Brothers mechanic - shortly before 2 a.m., police said. It wasn't clear if the car had been out since Wednesday or was taken on Saturday.

Sundown's father George, 54, said his son often took cars home from Helms Brothers - but with the authorization of the dealership, he believed.

Calls to Helms Brothers were not returned.
Gee, just like the parking lot attendants in Ferris Beullers Day off.........

I would nail their balls to the wall...they were not autherised for a joy ride.

I just took my 85 380sl with rough idle, and hard starting problem. I changed quite a few parts (Cold start valve, Idle control valve, vaccum hoses. cap, rotor, wires, plugs) to no avail.. you got the idea... Talked to Joe on the phone. He actually took his time to explain to me what I did wrong... what a guy. anyway I took my car to him. He adjusted the idle mixture screw and that was it... unbeliveable... I could've save a few bucks instead of changing out all the parts... Could not find a nice guy and let alone a auto mechanic... Spread the words out .....

Thumbs down

I worked at Helms Brothers several decades ago as an apprentice. It was a nasty place with nasty people. I would keep away as far as possible.

Another good garage is CDI in Victor, NY. Not near downtown Rochester
but worth the 25 mile drive to Victor. They are on route 251. I have brought
my 1982 240D, 1989 260E and 1966 250S to them and have had good
results.

willy's auto service in great neck, not too far away. 516-773-3542. I have used him myself for a tranny overhaul on my 1988 300ce. I was very satisfied.

I have this guy who does the work at his own home and charges very fair. He is an ASE certified tech in Manhattan and this is just his sideline. He can tackle any job, any car. he just fininshed rebuilding the tranny on My 560SEL and it came out fantastic with NO problems. If you are interested I will give you his number. he charges very fair, I think cheap compared to someone with a shop or what not...

Sorry for the wait. His name is Noel. He doesnt have a lift at his home and he just crawls underneath the cars like the rest of us. He is very friendly and polite and shows that he knows what he is doing. Did I mention he rebuilt all the parts in the tranny of my 560SEL and it came out great? He also replaced my a/c in my Landcruiser. His number is 646-207-3775 or 718-969-4780

When you call just mention that you got his number from Nestor.
