Far Rockaway/Five Towns

Just in case anyone else is looking, thought I'd give an update.

I went to Bill Lang and got the front and back windscreens replaced. A week or two later, I went to him for brakes.

V. happy with him. Like his shop. He restores Rolls and Daimler and Vespas and MB and anything else that catches his fancy. He sells old cars and his shop is a real scene on Saturdays (when I was there for the brakes). People in the area stop round just to see what he's got and to chat to other like-minded people. One guy brought doughnuts for everyone. Another guy came in to just help out for fun.

He was trained as an airplane mechanic but got out of school when the airtraffic controllers' strike was happening so he went to work for Rolls Royce.

First building in Nassau County from Far Rockaway. Around the corner from the Inwood Station on the LIRR.

Bill Lang at Westminister Auto (or William Lang Ltd., not sure how it is listed in the phone book) is trustworthy.

Thumbs up

Hi sohj, I am new here and I needed someone to install a windshield seal and driver door lock on my '91 190E. I took your advise and went to see Bill 'cause his shop is only 10 mins from my house. He did a very good job and he is a very nice person.

When I was there, he was finishing up an old RollsRoyce Silverspur for a customer. Oh yeah, I told him I heard about him from this site and you in particular and he remembered you. Thanks.

Talk to a good MB dealer, and see if they will work with you and the MB service rep. The whole dash has to come out to replace the evaporator, and the windshield wiper transmission to replace the activated charcoal filter. I had mine done and the factory absormed some major parts, I of course paid MB labor costs, am very happy

don't believe I need new evaporator

A mechanic friend (not mb mech), checked the freon level and determined that the system was not leaking freon.
But could not determine why the compressor is not kicking in
without hooking up to diagnostic equip, which he doesn't have.

with the system holding it's freon, I don't believe I would have to go to the extreme evaporator replacement route.
So I was hoping a good mech who knows MB can work on the AC without the dealer/srvc prices.

thanks.

Question Mitchell's Auto Repair--Need info, NYC.

Hi, all. I'm new here, and I was scouring the threads for a good shop in NYC. Bob S. had recommended Mitchell's awhile back, and I had a couple of questions...
1. Is your hearty rec still the same?
2. How is he on price?
3. I have a lovely problem that the dealership (Sovereign) wants to charge me $2900 to fix, and I'm trying to lower that amount. (Surprise!)
Basically, it's a stalling/engine rev problem, and I don't know if I could even drive the mile or so to Mitchell's--I'd probably have to tow it, since I am a serious non-DIYer. I was thinking of going over on my own with the paperwork, explaining the story, and having Mitch give me some advice and a ballpark price.
Would he do that, and what do you advise, since you use him?

Thanks!!

R2d2 : Glad you liked the place. I'm thinking of being out there again for shocks.

I assume that Bill Lang can fix that, too.

Yeah I liked the previous visit, infact was there last saturday to have Bill install a rebuilt starter for me. I will be back over the summer so that he can take care of some exterior cosmetic issues.

Great NYC and Long Island shop

Check out the Little Garage, with 2 locations, one in Queens and one on Long Island. A little expensive for stuff like AC work, but they are a performance oriented shop (more BMW but they do Mercedes too, they are a Dinan authorized retailer).

The Little Garage
456 West Jericho Turnpike
Huntington, NY 11743

Mitchells the Man

Sorry for the long delay I have been into other things for a while and I still do recommend Mitchell. Reach him at 718 854 8074. Tell him Bobby sent you. But by now you either contacted him or found someone else. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Actually, due to some unexpected turns of events, I'm still gathering funds for this work, so your reply is right on time.

Thanks so much...I'll keep all the NYCers posted.
