Got to go from Atlanta to Ithaca NY to take a problem ML320 to a real MB dealer shop. Any recommendations or experience with shops in Rochester (Holtz MB), Binghampton (Feduke MB) or possibly Syracuse?? (I was told there was a dealer in Syracuse, but I don't see one on mbusa.com.)

The problem seems to be that a dead battery left some computer settings bad after the new batt was installed. Been all through the prob on the ML and G wagen thread and got good advice. The problem "may" be fixed by a local independent, but it's now time to find a good dealer as close to Ithaca NY as possible.

I guess I get to answer my own post. I used the MBUSA web site to e-mail three dealers: Syracuse; Rochester, and Binghampton NY. Only one replied to my e-mail, Holtz Mercedes in Rochester. Guess which one I took the ML to?

The service manager at Holtz, Todd Trask, was very responsive and since I was coming up from Atlanta, he just said "pick a day and we'll work you in". I called from the road and made the appointment. When we arrived, they had all my requests in order from the e-mails and they had their courtesy driver take us down to the George Eastman House (Kodak Museum) so we could tour the place while they worked on the car. Todd called me about an hour after we arrived at the museum and told me the problem was the mass air sensor.

Holtz fixed the problem, plus did the other things I requested (oil change; replace bad bulb in instrument cluster; install two new dash vents which I supplied), and do the power steering clamp recall replacement. Todd called after lunch and they sent their drier down to pick us up at 3PM.. We arrived back at the dealer and the car was ready.. all work done perfectly, and no problems have occurred since.

They get my vote as the dealer to use in that area.

i don't know if this facility is still there, it's been 10 yrs of so since i've used them, Ernst mercedes in flushing, ny, near shea stadium # 718-539-5522 max was the owner that i dealt with, he took care of my 77 450 sl very well!!

if your customer is interested in people in westchester, i know a good mechanic in bedford

An MB tech, Joe McCambridge, with 25 years total MB experience has opened an indy shop recently in Mt. Sinai, in Suffolk County, Long Island. He is very knowledgeable, extremely helpful and very reasonable. I just got a car back that received plenty of TLC at no extra charge. It's rare to find a person with this level of dedication.

Since I have 3 late '80s MBs, it's well worth having such a person not only for work but for phone support too!

My mechanic of approx. 9 years is in Poughkeepsie - Mainly Benz 845 452 3137

It's about an hour from you, but I drive further than that to bring the car there.

Can anyone suggest an independent shop in Brooklyn, NY that is good, reasonable priced and knowledgeable about older Benz’s?

I’ve read a bit here about Kraft motors and Mitchell’s Auto. Any others?

I LOVE these guys, Nick and Arpi, they both own 124 wagons like yours, gassers. They do only MB's and plenty of diesels, including mine.

if you dont mind traveling to staten island u can visit my dads shop. Its on 1301 Travis Ave in Staten island. they have been in business for over 30 years. they are MERCEDES SPECIALISTS. it is the only one here in staten island. the shop is big and extremely clean and well kept. the head mechanic vito works magic when it comes to diesels. over 30 years of mercedes expiernce make these guys incredible when it comes to your problems. the shop is minutes away from the goethals bridge. if you would like to speak to them personally the # is 718-938-9898, ask for vito, he will help you out.
