Engine Overhaul (Shore & South)

Can anyone give any specific leads on shops that have suitable experience doing a complete W123/617 engine rebuild here in the Jersey Shore / Southern NJ area?

Wink 617 Overhaul

I don't know of anyone in NJ that does 617 overhauls. I can say from my own experience, olny because I rebuilt many 617 engines and many more . The 617 is very rebuildable, and parts are very excessible, I would only rebuild a Diesel 617 if it were done right, right means new liners, pistons, oil pump and chain, mains & rod bearings, timing chain and vating head and checking for cracks, new valve guides, rebuilt injectors,new rockers & Cam shaft with cam bearings.all new gaskets and seals, water pump .injection rebuilt and tested. all this would come to over 3,000 give or take, plus Labor? now you could get a rebuilt motor from metric motors complete less your core for 5,500 + with a guarantee, they have a A+ reputation. now like I said the 617 is very rebuilable with great results if it,s done right, proper clearances, rings, rods, mains,and only if the head is done right also valve seats replaced or cut and all valves lapped in properly, it,s a time consuming rebuild that myself great pleasure in rebuilding. now thats just a ball park figure and you still have the sprayers to contend with, but you can buy those new also.

Thank you very much for the great/detailed information. I am very concerned about doing this work through someone who is not going to give 100% total effort...
