Help...which W123 should I get
I need help...I really want to get a W123 coupe, but there are many years and different models to get. I live in South Florida and don't know who to turn to.
I have seen ads for a 1978 280CE w/50K miles for $3200...sold. I saw an ad for a 1983 C (assuming CD) w/50k miles for $3200. That's a great price for me, but don't know if it's a good deal or not. Can you help me? Anyone? |

Used to have a 230CE, loved it, extremely reliable and excellent drive.
Personnely I'd go for a post 1980 280CE or 300CD (was never offered in the UK ) as they were slightly updated, had improved heating and ventilation, revised seats, updated trim, modernised air-con and optional ABS. Variants; 230C '77-'80 M115 4cyl Carb. : 109bhp 230CE '80-'85 M102 4cyl Injec. : 136bhp 280C '77-'80 M110 6cyl Carb. : 156bhp 280CE '80-'85 M110 6cyl Injec. : 177bhp 300CD '77-'81 M617 5cyl Diesel : 80bhp 300CD '81-'85 M617 5cyl TurboD : 125bhp |

Yup,
I would also go for an 82+ 300CD-T or a well maintained 280CE. I honestly do not want a non turbo 300CD.. an 85 300CD-T with well cared leather interior, and abs would be a dream... I had a 300CD-T myself - 1983 with 190,000 mi. It was a beautiful car, enjoyable to drive, and man was it strong (good to fend off those stupid boston drivers who can't seem to stop hitting other cars)

Now the problem is finding a good one in South Florida...saw an ad for a 1978 w/50k original miles and original owner..asking $3200.00. It sold the day before I called about it.
I was advised by a MB dealer to avoid the Euro models as parts are very difficult to come by. I would prefer a 6 cyl. gas engine, but would consider a 4 cyl. gas...I guess that would be a 230C/CE. If anyone knows of a good 280CE up for sale in So.FL, please let me know. Thanks guys for your input. I really appreciate it. |
