HDTV Breathtaking!!!!....I just got the new HDTV setup and it is great, WOW watching the Olympics, it seems like I'm there.....anyone use A DVI cable for their hookup?? I am using component connections (RGB) for now..

In some cases I think composite is better than DVI, normally it takes a 6th generation plasma to tell the differnece. Your right about HD, now-a-days if its not in HD we don't watch it. Wait till football in HD.

yes I have read your posts about HD, seems like you have alot of experience with this. I searched for 3 weeks and ordered the Sony XBR 40 inch HDTV from www.abtelectronics.com. This TV is has the 4.3 and the 16.9 (bars). I just can't get use to the wide screen, too old I guess..

It takes some getting used to, but I'm sure you'll manage. What are you using for a tuner?

I finally finished my downstairs rumpus room so I'm shopping for another TV myself, I'm leaning towards a 65" rear projection I just can't stand the thought of kids throwing toys around a plasma or lcd, besides the RP's are cheap these days.

I looked at the Sony (too much) and I bought the Samsung HD TS 360, it is nice with good menu/graphics, it has all the different connections, the remote is OK at best ( cheep...non learning)

What is a DVI cable hookup?

Also, we are thinking about getting a HD Tivo. Anyone know if these are complete or does one also need a converter or other hardware?

DVI Digital Video Interface, I have an HD Tivo and it's complete with cables and all just plug and play.

HD Tivo actually has two digital OTA tuners, so you can watch and record different channels, another great thing about digital is you can get several substations of your traditional analog tv station.

during the NCAA tournament our station multicated several games so instead of having channel 10 for example you get 10-1 10-2 10-3 or our pbs station now has several channels PBSHD, PBS Kids, PBS enrichment and PBS news and all of this comes over the air and its FR double E.

One thing about the DVI is that it make room for your other component equipment, my XBOX is converted to HD.

The Samsung is a great unit but you can get the Hughes HTL-HD for 299.00 and it's the exact same unit as the sony and LG. Do you have directv?

On a related topic, does anyone know how long a run you can make with digital/ digital-optical? Either by use of coax or fiber, is there a point at which one is more suited than another?

Optical sucks and its too expensive for what you get, which is not as good as coaxial, with coaxial you should have no problems up to 25ft 40ft is no problem with good cable.

My projector isn't HDCP compliant so I have to use the analog RGBHV input. I have a 120 inch and it looks great. For me the best bang for the buck is a DLP projector and a projection screen.

I don't have Digital cable where I live so I'm stuck with OTA broadcast (all but ABC) and DirecTV.

yes I have Direct TV, I seem to like it better than the Dishnetwork. The Samsung 360 is $299 @ Circuit City, so I am running two receivers, 1 HD Samsung, 1 Hughes Standard with Tivo box..

Hey I live out in the sticks, not much entertainment here unless it comes through a cable...
