Agree with this. My sense about Tom DeLay is that I couldn't trust him. Trent Lott is another one.

Are there ANY politicians that would not stretch the truth to get elected? Fact is there isn't.

The procedure has been amended so upon indictment, the case is reviewed by the steering committee. If the indictment is deemed to be "political" in nature, the member is not suspended. Tom DeLay is one slippery fish. He implies the indictments of his Texas collegues are politically motivated, however the DA in Texas that issued them said the only people he indicts more than Republicans are Democrats. And his record bears this out: He indicts Dems 2:1 over Reps.

The way Texas law works, the DA for the state capitol (Austin, TX) has jurisdiction over prosecuting political corruption. Ronnie Earle is only a nominal Democrat and is hated and feared by both parties, because he is probably the only honest man in Texas politics, who routinely slaps people from both parties in jail. Tom Delay runs a political machine based on corporate money, which is illegal. Delay esentially runs a money laudering operation, in which he funnels this illegal corporate money to candidates running for Congress, which is why the Congressmen are putting the fix in for him at the Federal level - they were bribed. Delay hasn't managed to bribe the Travis County DA, who is going after him for the laundered money Delay hands out to Texas Congressmen. Earle has already indicted Delay's bagmen, and he is going to get Delay too. No man truly deserves it more. Of all people in government, no one man is more responsible for the corporate takeover of politics. He is also a fascist in every sense of the word, and desires only one thing - a Republican One Party State, to the point of dictatorship. I hope the bastard rots in jail. Was that "inflammatory" enough for you pal?

It was established years ago that Delay is an unethical, mean spirited jerk. There is no mystery there. The people I wonder about are: (a) the people who vote him into office; and (b) the people in Congress who elect him to leadership positions.

When he got slammed by the Ethics Committee a few weeks back he had a press conference in which he claimed to have be exonerated. He had a bunch of fellow legislators standing behind him with great, big, phony smiles on their faces. You'd think he won the Nobel Prize. At yesterday's press conference he had a bunch of them standing behind him again while he claimed that the proposed rule change has nothing to do with his situation in Texas.

His unbelievable phoniness comes direct from Dick Cheney's playbook: if you are going to lie, lie big. That way people will think there is something they don't know because no one could be that phony.

I think it is clear that ethics takes a back seat to power brokering. Unfortunately for boneheaddoctor the Republican Party is now virtually in sole possession of the power, and until that changes, they will be the ones being examined and outed by the press and each other. It is the way of the political system. The Democrats will get their turn soon enough.

The difference in this case is Tom Delay, like Trent Lott, is a bully. As a result, now that he is set up to actually use the power of his role/position, his ability to get things done the way he used to do it, by bullying, is going to be curtailed somewhat because everything he does now gets a lot more attention. If he is anything more than a bully, he will learn some new tactics and avoid being toppled as soon as he gets a grip on the wheel. It is a pattern that Gingrich and Lott have made plain for Delay to learn from, so lets see if he can. My bet is he can't. Jim

School Superintendant isn't trustworthy anymore either. The former State School Superintendant here in GA just got indicted for stealing $617,000 from federal schools funds. She apparently used some for her race for Gov. (which she lost) and almost $10,000 for cosmetic surgery.

Delay rules from a gerrymandered district south of Houston that is designed to contain no black people, no poor people and no Hispanic people. His constituency consists of two groups of people - rednecks and rich rednecks. In addition he controls the ultimate pork prize of Texas, the NASA Space Center, and the corporations that have their fingers stuck in that pie keep the money flowing. He is a consummate hypocrite, blasting Dems as big spenders, while delivering massive amounts of vote-bribery and pork to Texas from the Federal treasury, to the point we joke about it here.
