My assessment employs a single barometer -- that being that Christians should follow the teachings of Christ. Call it subjective but it strikes me as fair.
But....c'mon dude. There are as many people who faithfully attend church as there are churches that claim to have the One True Path. Especially protestants, wherever 2-3 are gathered, schism will be among them.

If you apply your Christ-o-Meter to Baptists, LDS, Roman Catholics, and Abyssinian Catholics, does it show the same Holiness Number?

Yes, lots of different details, extreme variations in level of devotion -- I neither laud nor condemn any of them -- to each his own. But I see someone like GW who likes to give the impression of a high devotion level and likes to use God-speak at every opportunity, and I believe that his actions are incongruous with his words. He seems less than genuine to me. My God-fearing family members are essentially unconcerned with his actions. They'll follow him like lemmings off a cliff as long as "God" is every other word from his mouth. It's an amazing phenomenon really.....

I feel your pain. Fully 2/3 of my family are equally certifiable.

Sorry you were wrongfully identified as the one who said Bush= Saddam. But I AM the guy who said Bush is similar to Hitler. Still, does anybody know how Kerry = Satan? And didn't you post that?

And to the rest of you, I certainly don't want religious discrimination in this country. We have "anti establishment" but we also have "free excercize" (read your Constitution). But when we run for political office, in part, on the basis of our religion, we should be true to it in all of its rules. I'm a Druid. That's why I never ran for. office! Who want's to vote for a Druid? Nobody! But if I ran for office (at least here in Oklahoma) on the basis that I was a fundamentalist Christian, I had better have a good church attendance record. Otherwise, my opponet would rip me up. Does the RNC control the media to the point that this matter was withheld from us during the campaign?

And again, does anybody know what fundamentalist Christian denomination I can validly claim membership in, while never going to church?

Thanks,
Richard

I have no problem whatsoever with that description. That description of Bush fits ol' Jimmy and Bill, too. Remember ol' Bill carrying his well-thumbed Bible around? Jimmy with his born-again experience? All three of these guys know how to play the card. And it works for them because so many believers want that affirmation in their lives--if the Prez does it then its okay and he's one of us (and we're one of him...). Its the same for anybody who has a deeply personal cause--we always want to see that cause revealed in leaders. Enviros, Libertarians, Christians, Muslims, PETA, whatever.

The part that I doubt is our ability to divine the divine in these people's lives. Was Bill's Bible and scripture quoting real or affected? I don't know. I don't care. What were his policies of government?

What do Bush's have to say about Kennedy's? Anybody know? Maybe we can start a flame war between plutocratic insider families.
Hear, hear. The last Kennedy who had ANYTHING useful to say about politics died of a gunshot wound to the head many years ago.

This guy is talking about a "Christian Taliban" controlling every media outlet in the nation.....about Nazi-ism (again! )....about right-wing heretics.......this is tin-foil hat stuff, if I've EVER heard any!

.....and he says he "still hasn't gotten over the shock" of the Democrats' overwhelming defeat around the country....

And we're supposed to take this guy seriously?

Please.

Well, Clinton and Carter didn't really employ God-speak the way Bush does. Carter always struck me as very genuine. People always expect their own qualities from others -- perhaps that was Carter's biggest failing as president. I would describe Clinton's religious aspirations as hopeful (you know --'if I keep reading this stuff, maybe I won't be such a putz') -- I've know a few folks like that -- I bet you have too...

Am I THAT much older than you? Jimmy wore religiosity like a campaign banner. The leftie media went after him for that like a bunch of hungry rat terriers. I think partly because they don't like religiosity. I think anybody with a puff of sense knows that politicians will help you believe untrue things about them if it serves their interest and false peity is just one of those things that gets newsies excited.

But another part was that Jimmy's a Baptist. I can picture the eye-rolling in the NY Times newsroom. I mean, presidents are SUPPOSED to be Presbyterians or Methodists. Only crackers are Baptists.

Maybe we could get some ol' fart Jarjins to talk about it.

Well, I'm not "that guy" but where do we stand with an administration determined to abolish the right to privacy? Yes, that right has been used to justify abortion rights, and perhaps rightly so. What business is it of a Constitutionally secular government? And what will they accomplish with this? Well, if anybody in my family wanted and needed an abortion (it will never happen), I would then buy them one of those $400 round trip flights to Paris, where they could get one (probably for more than $400 less than in the US), and in a country that has signed a Concordant with the Pope! So, for anybody with a brain who wants an abortion, nothing Bush can do in "packing the supreme court" will matter on this singular issue. But he got a lot of votes from the mobile home parks that way. Ditto with the "family values=no gay marriage" debacle. Look. I've got a wife (female), three kids, two dogs, and a Ford pickup. How much more of a traditional family do you want? Yet, I don't give a darn what some gays folks down the street do. Family values? Give me complete abolishment of the "marriage penalty" tax. Give me universal health care, like every other "first world" country has. Give me more educational assistance for children (dare I suggest even college?) Now that's "family values!" And how about some tax cuts that REALLY help the middle class (which I define as gross incomes of under $500K per year) and increasing taxes on the "rich" (which I define as those making gross over $2 Mil per year? Wouldn't that be better "family values" that spending all this time wondering what the gays are doing (to us family guys, we don't care).

Bush used his made up religion (doesn't go to church, right?) to drag out every voter with an IQ lower than 80. There's many of them, so he won. He fooled them to vote against their own interests financially due to emphasis on some irrelevant "wedge issues" like abortion and gay marriage. Well, in 1935 "it is reported" that 93% of the Jews in Germany voted for Hitler. Our opponets are some smart people.

Thanks,
Richard

Wow, you think 53% of Americans have an IQ of 80 or below. That ought to help convince people to see things your way.

Keep it up.

Jimmy Carter was a Baptist.A real one, who actually went to church. Love him or hate him politically, he did not mislead on his religious affiliation. If you voted, you knew what to expect from him when an issue touching religion came up. And he did not disspoint in this respect. I am not a Baptist, but I am a Druid. Yet, I can recoginze that Carter stood for everything that is RIGHT with Baptist theology. Otherwise, on pure political matters, love him or hate him. That's OK. But as to his religious affiliation, he told us the pue truth during the camaping. Gee, I wish all candidates would do the same.

Thanks,
Richard

No, I do not think 53% of US voters have an IQ of 80 or below. But I think some do. And I think that those who do came out in sufficient numbers for Bush to give him the victory in this "non-landslide" election.

Thanks

Germany in 1935-36? Show me where Bush is hiding all the Gas Chambers and Ovens that are being built to kill our own citizens and I'll "join your crowd"
