High anxiety here lately?????

Has anyone noticed a high amount of tension around here lately?

I've also noticed this around my home town too!

Had a mad man with rage behind me this afternoon and only because I wasn't picking up speed fast enough after a stop light! whipping me the bird with both hands!

People here on this forum are short fused lately, and over almost nothing!

What is in the air?

Around here everyone has chilled down a little and we have less stress...

I didn't actually mean here, open discussion, I meant the forum as a whole!

Larry Bible got pissed and said he'd never return to mercedesshop, others are getting pee'd over nothing, and I've been ridiculed for adding mild humor! Just to mention a few!

I didn't understand why Larry Bible got that upset. The comments seemed relatively mild compared to what happens here at the Open Discussion.
If torque wrench comments make people leave, they'd better not read the cannibalism thread.

I think we are being psychologically affected as a society by the constant messages of fear and war that we are being bombarded with by the media and by the politicians. We have also had three elections in a row since 2000 that have all been based on partisanship and division, and I think people are actually now resorting to the type of argumentation and approach to issues employed in politics in their personal lives now as well. We are living in a society where we are all gettting backed into a corner and now we are reacting to everything the way a cornered animal does. Also, all of our beliefs are challenged in a way they have never been before. People in general are pissed and irritable.

Yeah, best bets to not tick anyone off here are basically don't post oil threads, or some other frequently asked question whose answer can be found by searching.

I think its because of the constant second-guessing by people who see the worst possible interpretation of any given event.

We probably have the most philosophically and intelectually divided nation we've had since the Civil War. This fact can't help but surface here.

Thanks,
Richard

This country needs a good war that everyone can get behind 100%...that'll lift us out of our doledrums. May I suggest invading Iceland?

There seems to be a lot of support on the board for Canada. But what about France? It will be the third time we've invaded them in the last 9 decades and practice makes perfect.

Years ago a friend and I were hiking in the Santa Fe National Forest, and came upon what looked like an abandoned teepee. When we went for a look see, we soon discovered it was actually occupied. It was nicely situated by a brook that looked like it would be an excellent source of mountain trout. Not too far away was a volcanic hot spring, excellent for bathing. The owner was not about the place, probably on a trip to find meat for the table. Twenty years of rat race later, I can only say I have spent some of it envying him.

I’ve known Larry since early in ’99, when I first joined this site. Larry was always sensitive to controversy and didn’t respond well to being antagonized. He left before, several years ago due to Mbshop becoming an increasingly hostile environment, and months later came back but almost never returned to Open Discussion.

I can only guess, but suggest that his departure again has less to do with the thread cited above than the general trend of aggression and antagonism that the thread represents. The trend started in Open Discussion, but has spread to almost every forum at Mbshop. Too many members choose to contribute little and instead only criticize. Larry has helped hundreds if not thousands of folks here, and what did he get for his efforts?

The real tragedy here is that Larry was one of the 6 most generously helpful with their time, mechanically inclined, even talented and MB wise people here. His departure is a loss for us all, and is a harsh reflection on what the site is becoming: a sea of antagonism. Of course the vast majority of folks who seem to visit only to antagonize don’t really care a wit about MB cars or car stuff in general, or even helping anyone, they just want a place where they can pretend they can exert control.

Larry, with your departure Mbshop has taken another big step towards being a web site known largely for being a waste of time. I hope the other 5 top technical contributors don’t follow Larry’s lead, but wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
