Monster

The story on this women who butchered another women for her unborn child is about the most shocking thing I've read this year. I know these crimes happen from time to time but they just never cease to fill one with viseral disgust. What is inside these people's heads? Yet another case that challenge's ones views on the death penalty. Is the women who did this an insane person that should be spared, or a monster who should be done away with? Unbelievable.

Sick, sick woman! From what I have read about the case, the victim actually knew her killer. Both showed dogs.

Lisa Montgomery (the killer) posted on one of the dog forums to Bobbie (the victim) that she wanted to look at one of her puppies. She used another screen name and Bobbie emailed her directions to her home.

Freaky sick people allover.

Same here, this story turns my stomach so bad I can't even watch when they do a news clip on it. Now I have to update the Death Penalty thread.

This type of stuff always happened in the past. The media just never reported on it because they used to think it was bad form. Now the media will do anything to keep your attention for ratings. Greed.

I think she shoud get the same penalty reserved for anyone else who murders another person with premeditation in a heinous way for personal gain: Life in prison, or death.

If I had to rank it, I'd put it one step below what Scott Pederson did on the heinous scale, and a few steps above your run of the mill 'plot and carry out a murder against a business partner for personal gain' murderer.

One of the articles someone (mikemover?) posted last night mentioned this had happened 'several times' in the past, but without reference to whom, where, how many, or in what timeframe. It made me wonder how common this really is, like shane suggests.

Edit: The couple showed the baby off to their pastor... "Wheatly and his wife commented that the baby, whom the couple called Abigail, did not look like a newborn because her head was not misshapen from passing through the birth canal, a common result of childbirth that soon goes away." Shudder.

Unhappy Oh my God

From the article:

Quote:
Killings of pregnant women are more common than many people realize, The Washington Post reported in Sunday’s editions after a yearlong examination of death records.

Using state data and other sources, the newspaper documents the killings of 1,367 pregnant women and new mothers since 1990. It said there were undoubtedly more deaths, and that 13 states said they had no way of knowing how many such deaths occurred.
From the linked article:

Quote:
But in [the researchers'] study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2001, they wrote that in Maryland, "a pregnant or recently pregnant woman is more likely to be a victim of homicide than to die of any other cause."

...In Maryland, which keeps track of cases better than most states, slightly more than 10 percent of all homicides among women ages 14 to 44 happened to a pregnant or postpartum woman in the past decade. If that held true nationally, it would suggest about 295 maternal homicides nationwide a year .

I heard on the news today...

that the killer lady had previously posted on some internet forum that she wanted tips on how to slaughter a pig. This lady needs to be put out of her misery.

The more you read about it the more horrible it becomes. I just read that the poor girl's mother found her all cut up like that. My heart goes out to the mother, to have to find her daughter like that. The killer strangeled her before butchering her - it must have been beyond horrible to have to die with another life inside of you. The monster that did this is as cold blooded as they come. To think she took it to a church to show it off just shows what a sick craven waste of air this subhuman is. The good news is the feds are looking at doing her up on a Federal kidnapping rap because she crossed state lines, a death penalty fast track eliminating all state appeals. If it was me, I'd let the parents of that girl do her with an ax.

An excellent idea! Can I take a chop or two at her when they're finished?

What a piece of inhuman $h!t that woman is! I'm sorry, but I can't prevent myself from being extremely blunt concerning this horrible story.....Anyone who condones anything OTHER than the death penalty for that monster is an idiot.

Mike

OK I'll be the idiot.

This sort of case, the most vile inhuman behavior imaginable, are the easy ones. The serial killers, the torturers, they makes it easy for the "kill em all" crowd to have something to point to and say, "how can you oppose the death penalty" and they are right. This person doesn't deserve to draw another breath.

But the same system that lets you kill this nut is also the same system that quietly convicts and kills innocent people that we don't hear of. Until someone can guarantee that your not going to execute an innocent man, I will remain opposed to a legal system that employs the death penalty.

But its not the nature of the case or the nature of the defendent that should matter in sentencing - its the nature of the evidence. This case illustrates what I was saying before - her guilt is clear cut. She's a poster child for the term "crazed killer". In cases like these - death row. Now look at Petersen. Since no physical evidence ties him to the crime, there is an infintissmal chance he could be innocent - same exact crime, murder of a pregnant women, in Petersen's case even more heinous because the child was lost too - but under what mm and I are advocating - he gets to live. We need to junk what we are doing in death penalty cases and get a system like that in place.

I understand what you and MM are advocating and while I agree in theory, in practice it's an impossibility. THis isn't engineering or science where everything can be reduced to a formula. There is too much individual judgement and human interaction involved. The guilty go free and the innocent are convicted, there is just no way around it.
